About Our Project Linus Chapter

Read the story of the 20,000th blanket

During the fall and winter of 2001, ladies at the Senior Adult Activities Center in Ambler began to make blankets for Project Linus, having them delivered to the Philadelphia chapter. When Loretta Zvarick and Barbara Epstein agreed to be co-coordinators of a local chapter, application was made to national headquarters. We were established as the Montgomery County Chapter of Project Linus on April 1, 2002.

About Project Linus

Project Linus National Headquarters is located in Bloomington, Illinois. National President Carol Babbitt and Vice President Mary Balagna direct and orchestrate the activities of Project Linus chapters located across the United States. Both have been involved with the organization since late 1998, as chapter coordinators and now as directors and officers. They also maintain a very busy Central Illinois chapter, donating an average of 350 blankets every month to local children. With chapters in all 50 states, Project Linus continues to grow. Blankets are collected locally and distributed to children in hospitals, shelters, social service agencies, or anywhere that a child might be in need of a big hug. Project Linus History

On Christmas Eve, 1995, an article titled Joy to the World appeared in Parade Magazine. It was written by Pulitzer Prize winning photo-journalist, Eddie Adams. Part of the article featured a petite, downy haired child. She had been going through intensive chemotherapy and stated that her security blanket helped her get through the treatments.

After reading the article, Karen Loucks decided to provide homemade security blankets to Denver's Rocky Mountain Children's Cancer Center, and Project Linus was born. (from http://www.projectlinus.org/about.shtml)
